Does prayer become invalid if one is wearing a thin garment that describes the color of the thigh but does not distinguish its shape? And does it become invalid if one is wearing something that only describes the color of the skin? And are there different opinions regarding this?

If the garment covers the color of the 'awrah and does not distinguish the whiteness of the skin from its redness, then prayer in it is valid, even if it describes the size of the limb or the contours of the 'awrah. This is because the intention is to cover the color. However, if the garment is so light that it reveals the color of the skin, then covering with it is not valid according to the Shafi'is and Hanbalis. The Malikis hold that if the garment describes the color of the skin upon close inspection, prayer is disliked and must be repeated within the time. But if it is transparent and the color is visible without close inspection, then covering with it is forbidden and prayer in it must be repeated perpetually. The Hanafis believe that the garment must not reveal the color of the skin, but its clinging to the limb and conforming to its shape does not prevent the permissibility of prayer.
