How can one repent from slandering a Muslim, and what are the consequences of that?

Insulting a Muslim is forbidden and considered a major sin, especially if it comes from an elder to a younger person, because it contradicts mercy and the younger person may learn this behavior. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade slander, cursing, obscenity, and vulgarity, and he defined a Muslim as one from whose tongue and hand other Muslims are safe. Repentance for this involves repenting to Allah and seeking forgiveness from the sister, as the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, encouraged seeking absolution from the wronged person in this world before the Day of Resurrection.
