How does one repent for having wronged a Muslim in their honor without committing zina, when they feel Allah's intense wrath towards them?

Accusing a Muslim of adultery is a grave sin, and whoever slanders an innocent person deserves the hadd punishment for slander, which is eighty lashes. His testimony is not accepted, and he is considered a fasiq (transgressor). The enforcement of hadd punishments is the prerogative of the Muslim ruler. If the slanderer repents sincerely, regretting his actions and resolving not to return to them, seeking forgiveness, increasing in acts of obedience, associating with the righteous, avoiding bad company, and seeking forgiveness from the one whose honor he wronged, then repentance erases what came before it, and "the one who repents from sin is like one who has no sin."
