What is the correct intention for a person who has been afflicted in this life, then returned to God; must he abandon the betterment of his worldly life for his repentance to be pure?

It is by Allah's grace upon His servant that he understands from tribulations that he is deficient, and that he must return to his Lord with sincere repentance, purely for His sake, not for any other motive. If he does so, Allah will suffice him in the affairs of his worldly life, as stated in the Almighty's words: "And if only the people of the cities had believed and feared Allah, We would have opened upon them blessings from the heaven and the earth." And the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever makes the Hereafter his primary concern, Allah will place richness in his heart, gather his affairs for him, and the world will come to him submissively."
