The ha al-kinayah (pronoun ha) has its vowel prolonged if it falls between two vocalized letters. It may also be shortened by simply pronouncing its vowel without prolongation. Shortening the ha is observed by some reciters in nine specific words: (yu'addihi, nuwallihi, nuslihi, nu'tihi, fa'alqihi, yattaqihi, ya'tihi, yardahi, arjihi). Qalun shortens all of them, and for (ya'tihi), he has both options [shortening and prolonging]. Hafs prolongs all of them, except for (fa'alqihi, yattaqihi, yardahi, arjihi), where he recites (fa'alqihi, arjihi) with a silent ha, and (yardahi) with a shortened ha. For (yattaqihi), he has both options [shortening and silencing the ha].
