What is the ruling on smelling food?

The prohibition of smelling food has been mentioned in weak hadiths. It is disliked to smell food or drink in a way that causes anything from the breath expelled from the nose to touch the food, because it is considered repulsive, and it might carry diseases. Similarly, it is disliked to blow on food and drink or to breathe into their containers.
