What is the ruling on acting upon the steps mentioned in the hadith regarding the ritual bath after menstruation? Is omitting them reprehensible (makrooh)? What is meant by "its water and its sidr" and "a piece of perfumed musk (firsata min misk)" in this hadith? Is it permissible to use modern musk that contains chemical substances? And what type of musk was used during the time of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him?

The ghusl (ritual bath) for menstruation differs from the ghusl for janabah (major ritual impurity). It is prescribed for the menstruating woman to undo her hair so that water reaches its roots, and to thoroughly rub her body. As for sidr (lote tree leaves), it is a cleanser, and soap and other cleansers can take its place. As for the furṣah al-mumaskah, it is a piece of cotton with some musk, and all types of perfume can take the place of musk. The purpose of this is to remove unpleasant odors, and both are considered desirable by the majority of scholars.
