How can the two hadiths be reconciled: "Whoever fasts one day in the way of Allah, Allah will distance his face seventy autumns from the Fire" and "Whoever fasts one day in the way of Allah, Allah will distance his face one hundred years from the Fire"?

The hadith: "Whoever fasts one day in the way of Allah, Allah will distance his face from the Fire by seventy kharīf (autumns/years)" is authentically established in the Sahih collections. Some scholars have interpreted the phrase "seventy kharīf" to mean an emphasis on multiplicity, combining it with the narration that states "one hundred years." Others interpret it as varying according to the different states of fasters in the perfection of their fasting. Al-Ayni explained that the principle is to prefer the authentic narration, which is "seventy kharīf", because it is agreed upon. Alternatively, Allah first informed His Prophet of the lesser amount, then gradually increased it, or it is according to the varying states of fasters in the perfection and imperfection of their fasting.
