Is it obligatory for a garment to be shortened above the ankles, or is it sufficient for it not to fall below them? And do I incur a sin if I wash and iron long garments that are below the ankles for my husband if he refuses to shorten them?

The forbidden isbal (letting clothes hang low) for men is that which goes below the ankles. What does not go below them is not considered forbidden isbal, even if it is better to raise it. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whatever is below the ankles of the izar (lower garment) is in the Fire," and "Whoever drags his garment out of pride, Allah will not look at him on the Day of Resurrection." It is not permissible to assist someone who commits the forbidden act of isbal or other sins, such as cleaning the clothes of someone who practices isbal, because it involves cooperation in sin and transgression.
