How can the hadiths which mention that the reward of those who come later is equivalent to the reward of fifty of the Companions be reconciled with the hadiths which forbid reviling the Companions and state that spending an amount of gold the size of Mount Uhud would not equal a mudd or half a mudd (a dry measure) spent by one of them?

The hadiths mentioned the virtue of the Companions, and that the reward for a good deed in the End of Times will be multiplied by fifty-fold compared to that of the Companions. However, this does not mean that those other than the Companions are superior to them, for the virtue of companionship and witnessing the Prophet is unmatched. The reason for the multiplication of the reward for those other than the Companions is the scarcity of helpers in good deeds in their time.
