What are the statements of the four schools of thought regarding divorce by mistake, and what are the most famous other statements on this issue?

The Shafi'is and Hanbalis are of the view that the divorce uttered by mistake, where the divorce came out of one's mouth unintentionally, does not take effect. The Hanafis, however, believe it does take effect. As for the Malikis, they hold that if one's tongue slips with a divorce unintentionally, there is no consequence for him if that is proven. Imam Ibn al-Qayyim preferred the view that the divorce of one who made a mistake does not take effect, reasoning that divorce must be intentional. He mentioned examples of those who intended to say something but their tongues slipped with a divorce, emphasizing that it does not take effect, neither outwardly nor inwardly.
