If a husband pronounces a divorce (talaq) to his wife while being fully aware of what he is saying, then the divorce takes effect, and he must renew the marriage contract in the presence of her guardian (wali) or his representative. However, if he pronounces it in a state of extreme anger that makes him unaware of what he is saying, then the divorce does not take effect, based on the saying of the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him: "There is no divorce and no manumission in a state of 'ighlaq' (compulsion/unawareness)," and the marriage remains valid. The husband must disregard obsessive thoughts and not pay attention to them, and seek Allah's help and supplicate to be rid of them.
