What is the ruling concerning a married woman who repented after repeatedly committing indecency (without full penetration) with a male colleague at work? And what must she do now?
Adultery is one of the major sins and necessitates severe punishments in this world and the Hereafter, especially for a married woman (muhsana), as her sin is graver and she deserves stoning to death if the conditions are met. Nevertheless, Allah’s mercy is vast, and He accepts sincere repentance, which requires intense remorse, a firm resolve not to return to the sin, immediate cessation of mixed-gender work, severance of all communication with the adulterer, and an abundance of righteous deeds. The adulteress must also conceal her sin and not inform her husband or anyone else about what she has done. Her friend should conceal her sin as long as she is determined to repent; otherwise, she should threaten to inform her husband if she insists on continuing her transgression.
