What is the ruling on shortening the jilbab by a few centimeters, which reveals the trousers underneath?

It is not permissible for a woman to wear a short jilbab over trousers such that the legs are exposed and the limbs are distinguishable, because this contradicts complete concealment, even if the trousers are not tight-fitting. Sheikh Muhammad bin Salih al-Uthaymeen, may Allah have mercy on him, was asked about the ruling on wearing trousers if they are wide and loose, so that they provide concealment. He replied: "Even if they are wide and loose, because distinguishing you as a man from a man by them contains an element of lack of concealment."
