Does the noble verse: "And to Allah belong the best names, so invoke Him by them. And leave those who deviate in His names. They will be recompensed for what they used to do," imply the prohibition of invoking Allah by names other than His beautiful names, such as saying: "Allah, the Bestower of Favors"?

The preponderant view is that the names of Allah are tawqifi (revealed and not subject to human reasoning), so it is not permissible to name Allah except with what He has named Himself, and scholars have considered this to be a form of atheism (ilhad). Scholars have differed regarding the name "Al-Mun'im" (The Bestower of Blessings): is it among the names of Allah or not? The reason for this is their difference concerning the permissibility of deriving names from what has been mentioned in the Shariah in the form of a verb. If that is permissible, then it is permissible to name Him Al-Mun'im; otherwise, it is not.
