Is there a special reward from Allah for being a stranger and dying, and for a father being buried far from his family and homeland?

Some hadiths have been narrated regarding the virtue of one who dies far from their homeland and family, some of which are hasan (good) and some da‘if (weak). Among the hasan hadiths is what Ahmad, An-Nasa’i, Ibn Majah, and Ibn Hibban narrated from the hadith of Abdullah ibn Amr, who said: A man died in Madinah, one who was born there, so the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) prayed over him, then said: «Would that he had died elsewhere than his birthplace.» They asked: And why is that, O Messenger of Allah? He said: «Indeed, when a man dies elsewhere than his birthplace, what is between his birthplace and the termination of his footsteps in Paradise is measured for him.»

Al-Suyuti explained the saying: "what is between his birthplace and the termination of his footsteps in Paradise is measured for him" to mean that his grave is expanded for him to the extent of the distance between his grave and his birthplace, and a gate to Paradise is opened for him.

Among the hadiths also narrated concerning this, but which are weak, is: "Death in a foreign land is martyrdom." Its chain of narration has been weakened by Al-Albani and Shu'ayb Al-Arna’ut. Ibn Al-Qayyim said concerning this hadith: "This hadith is not authentic, and it has been narrated through routes none of which are sound."
