The question

Is it permissible for a wife to fondle her husband during the daytime in Ramadan if he believes that the emission of semen without intercourse does not invalidate the fast, even if that results in the emission of pre-seminal fluid (madhy) or semen (maniy)?

The answer

The fast is not broken by the emission of madhy (pre-seminal fluid), according to the most preponderant view among scholars. It is not permissible to adopt the opinion of a certain scholar merely out of personal desire. When scholars differ, it is obligatory to refer the matter back to Allah and His Messenger. If a ruling is established by sound evidence, then no one else’s opinion holds sway. The majority of scholars hold that masturbation and fondling a woman until ejaculation are among the things that invalidate the fast. If someone believes that emitting semen through fondling one’s wife does not break the fast, based on knowledge and religious conviction, there is no harm in that. However, it is not permissible to seek out the slips and concessions of scholars; whoever does so becomes a zindiq (heretic). The questioner is advised to suffice with fondling through touch and kissing, without ejaculation, as a precaution for the fast and to clear one’s conscience.
