Is it forbidden for a woman to live with her husband who has abandoned prayer, and is she considered Islamically divorced from him, or must she seek divorce or annulment (khulʿ)?

Scholars differ on the ruling concerning one who abandons prayer. If the abandonment is out of denial (juhood), then he is an apostate by the consensus of Muslims, and it is not permissible for his wife to remain with him. However, if he abandons it out of negligence, the majority of scholars hold that he does not thereby exit the fold of Islam, and there is no harm in his wife remaining with him. It is recommended for her to supplicate for his guidance and to offer him sincere advice. If he persists in his misguidance, then it is preferable for her to seek a divorce (talaq) or khul'a.
