Is it permissible to pressure a wife to return after she has been divorced three times in one sitting and her waiting period (iddah) has expired, especially given her unwillingness to return, and in light of the Hadith: "The non-virgin woman may not be married until she is consulted, and the virgin until her permission is sought, and her permission is her silence"?

The majority of jurists agree that a triple divorce counts as three divorces, and the woman becomes irrevocably divorced, not permissible for her husband until she marries another man. This is the adopted fatwa (definition). Sheikh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, however, holds the view that a triple divorce counts as only one divorce. If the waiting period (iddah (definition)) has ended, a new contract is necessary for the wife to return, and the husband becomes one of the suitors. It is not permissible to force the wife to marry if she does not desire it.
