What is the expiation for looking at each other, arousing desire, and fulfilling one's need during the waiting period (iddah) after an oath of divorce?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

If a husband divorces his wife with a revocable divorce, and either of them enjoys the other before the 'iddah (waiting period) ends, there is a difference of opinion among scholars regarding its permissibility. The Hanafis and Hanbalis consider it permissible, while the Malikis and Shafi'is prohibit it.

If this action was committed without believing in its permissibility, one must repent to Allah for this sin. There is no expiation for it except repentance, which involves abandoning the sin, regretting having committed it, and resolving not to return to it.
