What is the ruling on working as a programmer for software companies that sell their products to insurance companies and banks, knowing the difficulty of finding work in the field of computer science?
It is not permissible to program a product if it is specific to interest-based banks and commercial insurance companies, which are forbidden, or if it is predominantly sold to them. This is because, in such a case, it would be considered cooperation in sin. However, if the product is not specific to those institutions and is sold to institutions with permissible activities, then there is no harm in programming it. If that is not possible, it is advisable to strive in seeking permissible work, while seeking assistance from Allah, and remembering the words of Allah Almighty: "And whoever fears Allah - He will make for him a way out, and will provide for him from where he does not expect."
