What are the characteristics of the true religion?

Every adherent of a religion believes that their religion is the truth. However, deviated religions and false human creeds rely on blind imitation and unsubstantiated stories, for truth is one. To distinguish between true and false religions, certain criteria are necessary:

1. The religion must be from God, revealed through an angel to a messenger for him to convey.

2. It must call for the exclusive worship of God and prohibit polytheism.

3. It must be consistent with the fundamental principles proclaimed by the Messengers.

4. It must not be contradictory or inconsistent.

5. It must include what preserves the five necessities: religion, honor, wealth, life, and progeny.

6. It must be a mercy to creation.

7. It must include guidance to God's law and provide the soul with security and tranquility.

8. It must call for noble morals and forbid bad ones.

9. It must bring happiness to those who believe in it and be consistent with natural disposition and sound intellect.

10. It must guide to truth, warn against falsehood, and lead to guidance.
