Marriage is a strong covenant, and Allah has called it a sacred rite. It aims at chastity and procreation. If the wife requests a divorce without a legitimate Shar'i reason, she is sinful, and the husband has the right to refuse her until she forfeits her rights. If the divorce occurs before consummation, the wife is entitled to half of the dowry. If it occurs after consummation, she is entitled to the full dowry. The dowry is her property, and she can dispose of it as she wishes.
