First: The six famous books, including Sunan Abi Dawud, are considered among the foundational and most authentic books of Sunnah (definition) in terms of their chains of transmission. Sunan Abi Dawud is regarded as one of the greatest compilations of Sunnah after the two Sahih (definition) collections, due to the quality of its chains of transmission and its compilation of hadiths related to rulings.

Second: The book Sunan Abi Dawud has received widespread praise from scholars. Ibn al-A'rabi said about it: "If a man had no knowledge except the Mushaf (definition) containing the Book of Allah, and then this book, he would never need anything else of knowledge at all."

Third: Abi Dawud's methodology in his book: 1. The book focuses on hadiths related to rulings and does not include hadiths on asceticism or the virtues of deeds. 2. He mentions the most authentic narration he found on a particular topic, while also mentioning any conflicting narrations if they exist. 3. He did not narrate from any narrator whom he considered abandoned (matruk), although he might narrate from narrators considered abandoned by others.

Fourth: The hadiths in Sunan Abi Dawud are not all of the same grade. They include sound (sahih) and good (hasan (definition)) hadiths of both types, as Abi Dawud himself mentioned. The book is not devoid of weak hadiths, especially mursal (missing the companion in the chain) hadiths, and hadiths whose extreme weakness he pointed out. He might remain silent about weak hadiths if their weakness is apparent or if they are suitable for argumentation. However, one cannot rely solely on his silence to judge the authenticity of a hadith (definition). Therefore, Sheikh Al-Albani divided the book into "Sahih Sunan Abi Dawud" and "Da'if Sunan Abi Dawud."
