What is the interpretation of the Almighty's saying: "You were heedless of this, so We removed your veil"?

The noble verse: "You were certainly in heedlessness of this; and We have removed from you your cover, so your sight today is sharp" speaks about the state of a person after the stupor of death. Exegetes have differed on three opinions regarding who is addressed by it: the disbeliever, or generally both the righteous and the wicked, or the Prophet, peace be upon him. The meaning of "so your sight today is sharp" is that your sight is penetrating and perceiving what you were heedless of, either due to witnessing the horrors of the Hereafter, or realizing the reward and punishment of deeds, or through penetrating knowledge. There is a difference regarding what is meant by "today": is it the Day of Resurrection (which is the opinion of the majority), or in this world (according to those who say that the addressed is the Prophet, peace be upon him).
