What is the ruling on one who ate suhur and then slept without rinsing his mouth, then fasted the following day?

1 min readAlso available in العربية

Whoever partakes of the pre-dawn meal (sahur) and does not rinse their mouth, their fast is valid as long as nothing from what is stuck between their teeth enters their stomach. If a small amount enters that cannot be spit out and is difficult to guard against, then there is no blame upon him, by consensus. However, if it is a large amount that can be spit out, and he intentionally swallows it, his fast is invalidated according to the majority of scholars.
