Throughout history, how did Muslim scholars respond to those who denied the noble Prophetic Sunnah based on their intellect?

Muslim scholars have opposed all who deviate from the established Sunnah with corrupt opinions, explaining that Allah has commanded us to worship Him through revelation (the Qur’an and Sunnah), not through intellects and opinions. The root of every affliction is opposing the text with opinion and prioritizing whims over sacred law. Allah has established proof against His creation through His book and His messengers, and guidance is attained through revelation, not through differing intellects. There is no contradiction between sound intellect and authentic transmission, for the Sacred Law brings what astounds the intellect, not what is impossible for it. Scholars have demonstrated the contradictions of the adherents of this school of thought and their opposition to the dictates of reason. Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah established proof against them by combining sound rational thought and authentic transmitted texts.
