What is the ruling on working in a cafeteria frequented by university students, both male and female, where there is intermingling and music played, and food and drinks are served, and where some transgressions may occur, such as holding hands, bearing in mind that the questioner works there due to the lack of other employment opportunities?

It is not permissible to continue working in a place that includes objectionable elements such as mixing of genders and music. The solution is to regulate the place with শরীʿআ (Islamic law) controls, such as separating areas for men from women, and replacing music with the Quran and anasheed (Islamic chants). If the father does not accept these reforms, then it is not permissible to continue working. Whoever abandons something for the sake of Allah, Allah will compensate him with something better.
