Is it permissible to name a newborn girl "Ayat Al-Noor"?
A newborn girl should not be named "Ayat al-Noor." If "al-Noor" is intended as one of the names of Allah, then it is inappropriate to use "Ayat al-Noor," just as it is inappropriate to use "Abd al-Noor." If "al-Noor" refers to created light, then the meaning is not sound, nor is its meaning correct based on common additive constructions. This name might be considered acceptable metaphorically or hyperbolically, implying she is a great light, but "Ayat al-Noor" contains excessive hyperbole because an "Ayah" (sign) refers to something great and miraculous, which she is not. Therefore, this name should be avoided, and another good and truthful name should be chosen.
