If a person swears an oath concerning someone who is bound by the swearer's oath, such as a wife, child, or friend, and then the person sworn about disobeys, the swearer must offer expiation, because he is the one who broke the oath. He must be informed that he owes expiation to fulfill his obligation and uphold his oath. If the swearer expiates for his oath, that oath is dissolved. There is an opinion that this type of oath does not require expiation if the swearer's intention was to show honor.
