What is the difference between the Hadith scholars and the jurists?
The term "Muhaddithun" ( scholars) is applied to those who devoted themselves to the science of Hadith, both in terms of narration and distinguishing between the sound and the weak among them, and meticulously tracking the circumstances of narrators, whether in terms of discrediting or accrediting them. It is characteristic of these scholars that they generally did not delve into the jurisprudence of the texts. Examples include Ali ibn al-Madini. As for the term "Fuqaha" (Jurists), it is applied to those who predominantly focused on deriving Islamic legal rulings from the Quran and , such as the four Imams who combined both descriptions. "Muhaddithun" is derived from "Hadith," meaning news or report, and "Fuqaha" is derived from "Fiqh," which means knowledge of something and understanding it.
