What is the difference between a righteous vision, a miracle (karamah), a miracle (mu'jizah), and a sign (ayah)?

Miracles (mu'jizah), signs (ayah), and divine favors (karamah) are all extraordinary occurrences. Some early scholars used the term "miracle" (mu'jizah) for every extraordinary occurrence, and they might also call them "signs" (ayat). However, later scholars differentiate, assigning miracles to prophets and divine favors to saints (awliya'). A divine favor is an extraordinary act performed by God through His believing, pious servant. An example of this is Umar's karamah regarding the Nile in Egypt. Miracles are specific to prophets, and divine favors are for saints. A righteous dream (ru'ya salihah) is among the glad tidings seen by a righteous person in their sleep, and it is a divine favor from God to them.
