What is the ruling on Islamic anasheed (chanted poetry)?

It is permissible to listen to Islamic nasheeds that contain wisdom, admonitions, and encouragement to do good. However, one should not overindulge in them lest they distract from the remembrance of Allah and listening to beneficial lessons. A condition for their permissibility is that they should not be accompanied by unlawful musical instruments, except for what the Lawgiver has permitted, such as the duff (tambourine) at weddings.
