Is a mother entitled to claim support for her adult children who are studying and do not have an income, knowing that their father gives them the choice between living in one of his apartment buildings and providing for them, or not providing for them?

The majority of scholars hold that the father is not obligated to financially support his adult son who is capable of earning a living. However, this obligation becomes binding if the son is unable to earn due to old age or illness. The Hanbalis, however, are of the view that the father is obligated to support his son as long as the son is poor and unable to provide for himself, even if he is healthy. As for the financial support of adult daughters, it is obligatory for their father until they get married. It is advisable to refer to the Sharia court in matters of dispute.
