If a husband divorces his second wife under pressure from his mother, does the divorce take effect despite the compulsion? Is it permissible for the husband to take his wife back with the intention of reconciliation without a new contract in order to inherit? And are the mother and first wife sinful because of this?

It is not permissible for a co-wife or a mother-in-law to seek the divorce of a woman. This is a grave evil and an act of devils. A son is not obliged to obey his parents in divorcing his wife.

If the husband predominantly believes that his mother will withhold his inherited money if he does not divorce his wife, and this money has significant value and worth, then this is considered duress (ikrah). The divorce pronounced under duress is not valid. If the divorce was documented in an official paper, the husband must officially reconcile with his wife, or enter into a new official marriage contract with her.
