What is the religious ruling on a relationship between a young man and a young woman that began online with the intention of marriage, given the desire to cease communication until the young man formally proposes, and is it advisable to inform the parents about this matter, especially with the appearance of positive signs from the Istikhara (guidance prayer) for both parties?

The question includes three matters:

Firstly: It is permissible for the guardian of a virgin to compel her to marry a specific person who meets the Sharia-compliant criteria, even if she dislikes him, as previously stated in Fatwa no. 32533.

Secondly: The interpretation of visions and dreams is not within the purview of this website.

Thirdly: If the questioner desires to marry her maternal aunt's son and her guardian agrees, there is no impediment. Mere engagement does not prevent marriage to someone other than the fiancé. It should be known that the maternal aunt's son is a non-mahram to her, so it is not permissible to speak with him except out of necessity. Any conversations that occurred between them must be kept private, and her family should be informed of her lack of desire for the current fiancé. Then, the engagement should be annulled, and the former fiancé should be informed of this.
