The question

What is the ruling on hair that grows on the lower lip (the "anfaqah") that does not reach the chin? And is the boundary of the cheek on the face what covers the lower jawbone, or does it extend beyond that? And is it permissible to trim or cut what exceeds the boundary of the cheek of facial hair, such as that on the cheekbone?

The answer

In addition to defining the beard, the Malikis stipulated the impermissibility of shaving the hair of the anafaqah (the hair on the lower lip and chin). As for the cheek (wajnah), it was not included in the definition of the beard, so there is no objection to removing hair growing on it.
