Is it permissible to participate in a marathon on condition of not accepting the prize and performing the prayer on time?
Competitions have two situations:
First: That they are free from forbidden elements such as the exposure of 'awrah (intimate parts) and their prizes are free from gambling and (games of chance) by having free participation. In this case, there is no harm in participating and receiving the prizes.
Second: That they contain forbidden elements such as the exposure of 'awrah, or Maysir, where the participant pays money for their participation. In this case, it is not permissible to participate in them or to receive their prizes, due to their participation in sin. Allah Almighty said: (And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression). And because a Muslim must condemn evil, not participate in it.
