Is money earned from mixed marathon races, in which there is exposure of 'awrah (parts of the body that must be covered in public), lawful or unlawful?

A competition with a prize for running on foot is a matter of differing opinions. The Hanafis permitted it, while the majority of scholars prohibited it, citing the hadith: "There is no prize except for a hoof (horse), or a foot (camel), or an arrow (archery)."

Some scholars, such as Ibn Taymiyyah, permitted it if the intention was to support Islam, and if the prize was a reward and encouragement from a third party. Ibn 'Uthaymeen also permitted it if the prize came from a third party.

The participation of unveiled women and mixing with them does not affect the ruling on the prize obtained from the competition. However, the ruling on participation and mixing itself refers to specific fatwas related to that.
