It is recommended to seek refuge in Allah Almighty and supplicate to Him persistently, for He says: (Is not He who responds to the distressed one when he calls upon Him and removes evil, and makes you inheritors of the earth? Is there any god with Allah?) [An-Naml:62]. It is also advisable to seek out a righteous man to perform ruqyah (Islamic exorcism) on the patient with the lawful ruqyah, while warning against going to sorcerers and charlatans, for the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever goes to a fortune-teller or a soothsayer and believes what he says has disbelieved in what was revealed to Muhammad," and he also said: "Whoever goes to a fortune-teller and asks him about something, his prayer will not be accepted for forty nights." The patient should continuously be advised and guided towards obedience, and informed that affliction is due to sins and is removed by repentance, so he must rectify his relationship with his Lord.
