Is it permissible for a man of intense sexual desire, who has failed to marry multiple times, to masturbate in order to calm his sexual urges, or is he obligated to fast for the rest of his life?

Masturbation is forbidden by the majority of scholars, and disliked by others. However, some scholars have permitted it out of necessity, such as fear of fornication or illness. This is what Sheikh Al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah reported from a group of Companions and Tabi'un. As for without necessity, it is not permissible.
