Is repentance for the rights of Allah contingent upon repentance for the rights of people or minor sins in order for it to be accepted?
We have previously explained the obligation of repentance from all sins. Its conditions are three between a servant and his Lord: (1) cessation [of the sin], (2) remorse, and (3) a firm resolve never to return [to the sin]. A fourth condition is added if the sin relates to the rights of another human being, which is to seek their forgiveness or clearance. So, whoever repents from apostasy, their repentance for it is valid, even if they have not repented from other sins.
