How can the soul's inclination towards desire and regret over sin be reconciled as a condition for repentance, and does the soul's inclination prevent the acceptance of repentance?

Regret for a sin can be achieved by reflecting upon the ugliness of disobedience and its negative consequences, and by remembering one's standing before Allah the Almighty. This softens the heart, prevents inclination towards sin, and fills the heart with remorse. The yearning for sin contradicts regret for it. The inclination towards sin can be repelled by remembering the misery and pain, both immediate and delayed, to which it ultimately leads.
