When is a person considered to be overcome by obsessive doubts (mustankah), and is it permissible for him to ignore all his doubts? Is there a consensus on the permissibility for a person overcome by obsessive doubts (mustankah) or one afflicted by scruples (musawwis) to ignore all his doubts, and that there is no sin upon him even if his doubts were real and he was unaware?

The criterion for overwhelming doubt is clarified in Fatwa No. 122730. There is no disagreement among scholars that a person afflicted by obsessive whispers (waswas) should disregard them and pay them no attention. If a person afflicted by waswas does this, then they have done what Allah has legislated for them, and their worship is sound and accepted. They should not pay attention to what Satan casts into their heart, and they should recall Allah's mercy upon His servants, and that Allah does not burden a soul beyond its capacity.
