What common folk claim about the dislike of marriage between the two Eids is a false belief with no basis, rather it is a remnant of the pre-Islamic era (Jahiliyyah). The majority of jurists have deemed marriage in Shawwal desirable, based on what Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, narrated: that the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, married her and consummated their marriage in Shawwal. This was in response to the people of Jahiliyyah who considered marriage in Shawwal an ill omen. There is no time in Islamic law when contracting marriage is forbidden, except for what relates to a legal impediment. Shawwal is like any other month, and the Prophet’s marriage in it was coincidental, not intentional. It is desirable for anyone who sees someone superstitious about marriage in Shawwal to marry in it, in order to invalidate this belief.
