Is what people say about not marrying in the month of Shawwal true?
The month of Shawwal was named thus because of the "tashweel" of camel milk, which refers to its turning away and departing. The Arabs used to consider it inauspicious to عقد marriages during it, believing that a woman would abstain from her husband like a she-camel. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, invalidated this ill omen, and he married and consummated his marriage with Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, in Shawwal. Therefore, pessimism regarding marriage in Shawwal is baseless and a remnant of the pre-Islamic era of ignorance, and jurists have explicitly stated that it is desirable to perform marriage and consummate it during this month.
