What is the ruling on taking a meter or two from a piece of land that is no longer owned by anyone, and was previously owned by a person who was prevented from completing construction on it and was compensated, and then it became part of a public road and was removed, with a remaining distance adjacent to our house after the road was widened?

As long as the state has taken possession of the aforementioned land and compensated its owner for it, it becomes its property. Therefore, it is not permissible to take anything from it except with its permission, because that is considered transgression and usurpation, which is forbidden by Islamic law. The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Whoever wrongs by taking a span of land, will have it encircled around his neck from seven earths."
