Is there a difference between a Prophet (Nabi) and a Messenger (Rasul)? May Allah reward you.

Scholars have differed on the distinction between a Prophet (Nabi) and a Messenger (Rasul), and the correct view is that there is a difference. The most common opinion is that the Messenger is commanded to convey [the message], while the Prophet is not. However, some have held that a Messenger receives a book or is visited by an angel, whereas a Prophet receives revelation (wahy) or is a follower of another Messenger.

The best opinion is that both receive revelation, are sent, and are commanded to convey [the message]. Their difference lies in the fact that a Messenger is sent to nations who have denied [the truth] with an independent message, while a Prophet is commanded to convey [the message] without an independent message for a new nation; rather, he announces what Allah has announced and acts according to the previous law.
