What is the ruling on one who delays the Adhan beyond its time, and is the Adhan prescribed for someone alone in the desert?

If the muezzin is late for the beginning of the time, it is not prescribed for him to give the adhan if there are other muezzins who have fulfilled the requirement, unless the delay is minor. However, if there is no one else in the town but him, he must give the adhan even if he is late, because it is a communal obligation (fard kifayah) that no one else has performed. It is prescribed for the traveler to give the adhan even if he is alone, due to what is mentioned in the hadith that raising one's voice with the call will bear witness for the muezzin on the Day of Resurrection.
