How can one act and deal with a wife who refuses to return home, is characterized by excessive sleep and negligence in caring for the house and children, refuses to discuss these problems, and is supported by her family in this, knowing that the husband is committed and wishes to rectify the situation?

Marital life can only thrive with understanding, good character, and overlooking minor faults. The wife must obey her husband in what is permissible and avoid involving family members in marital problems, as this only exacerbates them. A wife leaving her home without a valid reason constitutes nushuz (disobedience). A mother who incites her daughter to nushuz shares in the sin. One should deal with wisdom and try to appease the wife and her mother, but if that does not work, the matter should be referred to the Sharia courts.
